EMBARCADERO 10
The goal of this sesmeter was to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for the full architectural process. In doing this we had to integrate not only good design but the graphic standards of working drawings, building and zoning codes, life safety systems, and mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
The project was an Embarcadero, a mixed use development that consisted of a water taxi/ferry terminal, an open fruit and spice market, as well as office, retail, and multi-use space. The other important aspect of it would be a coffee roastery and cafe which would import, roast, sell, and use coffee beans from Latin America.
Our design saw us spearate the program into two buildings. The North Building housed the coffee functions and other spaces. While the South building housed the travel functions and open air market . The middle of the site is as an open plaza to allow views to the river and welcome the community.

In response to the climate of the region we emphasized openness to the exterior. A lot of the building’s program is naturally ventilated using folding wall systems as well as motorized horizontally folding shutter system. These would offer shade during the day when open and security at night when closed.
We also used a green wall system as a way to decorate a plain wall, as well as decrease heat gain, and create and attraction for the niegborhood.
