MOTORIZED LOUVER SHADING DEVICE

As an addition to a design studio project, a partner and I embarked on a research project of one aspect of our design namely a horizontally folding louver shading system. This idea came out of the desire to keep as many areas of the building as possible naturally ventilated as well as shade those areas. We came across variations of this system on a few other projects and decided to perform more in depth research into how they work and their effectiveness.

We built digital models using software testing their shading effeciency. Manually operated physical model was then created. At the end we built a motorized scale model of the device. It was 3D printed and used an arduino board with a knob that could control the movement up or down of the louver system using code we developed.
